About Longboards:
The Longboard, Mal or Malibu range from 8ft to 14ft or you can class a board as a Longboard if it's around three feet taller than the rider/surfer in overall length. The advantages of riding a Longboard are many but the main one is the extra buoyancy/stability and surface area they offer which enables the surfer to catch waves more easily, which is a bonus for the beginner as they will progress more quickly. For the more experienced surfer who knows his stick there is no better feeling than taking off at the back of the line up on the green part of the wave just as it is forming, stood up carving soulful arcs along the face of the wave doing drop knee turns or hanging ten. The Mal is suitable for experienced and beginners alike primarily due to there size and if I could offer one piece of advice to the learner adult who may not be as fit as they used to be it would be to start out on a Longboard.
